President Ashton (William Hurt) is attending a global war on terror summit in Spain. Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) are two of the Secret Service agents assigned to protect him. This is the first action that Agent Barnes has been in since he took a bullet for President Ashton six-month earlier. We really dont know if Agent Barnes is up to the challenge of protecting the President. Shortly after President Ashton is escorted to the stage in the plaza by the Secret Service, he is immediately shot twice by a rifle from a window and falls to the floor. The crowd is in shock and chaos breaks out all over, especially, when bombs begin to explode. Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker) is an American video-taping the event to show to his children that he was actually there at this historic event. He believes that he has the picture of the man who shot the President. Agent Barnes sees the tape and has a clue to that person. Several different people witness the event, and only through their eyes do we see the truth behind the assassination attempt.

Add some gloss effect in photoshop

In this tutorial you will learn how to add that trendy smooth gloss effect to your shapes, text and objects in Photoshop. It’s a universal effect and can make most aspects of a design look really sleek and attractive. Step 1

The first step to this tutorial is to create your shape on a blank canvas. *Note that this isn’t how you have to do it all the time, but for the sake of learning this is the quickest and easiest way to grasp the technique. For this tutorial, we’ll use a rounded rectangle shape:

Step 2

Now that you have your basic shape, you can start to construct the glossy effect that this tutorial is all about. Your first task in this stage is to make the selection for the area that you want to add the gloss to. This is the trickiest part of the whole effect, so you need to be a little careful.

To select the entire area of the shape, move yourself over to the layers window (accessible also from Window > Layers on the top menu) and left click on the shape layer only once. While holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard left click the shape layer once more and it will create a selection around the shape for you. The outcome should look like this:

Step 3-1

Now that you have your basic selection as seen above, it’s time to trim some of that away so that you get your base for creating the amazing gloss effect that you want. The next thing for you to do is to create a new layer by clicking the ‘New Layer’ icon that can be found at the bottom of the Layers Window:

Once you have your new layer you are almost ready to start adding your gloss effect, however you still have to limit your selected area. To do this, select the square marquee tool from the toolbar and set the controlling power to the one shown here:

Now that your tools are set, it’s time to select the area you want to gloss. For the sake of the tutorial and for you to pick the technique up quicker, drag a square selection from above the current selection down to about half way into the shape and let go of the left mouse button. You should end up with a result that looks like this:

*Note, other selections can be made by experimenting with the circular marquee and the lasso tools.

Step 4

Now it’s time to actually make this gloss effect visible. Select your gradient tool from the toolbar and set the controlling power to the one shown here:

It’s important for your foreground colour to be set to white. This will be the only colour that you can use to achieve the gloss effect properly. Now that you have your selection and your tools ready it’s time to get to business.

Step 5

Take your gradient tool, and drag downwards from just above the top of your shape, to just below where your selection ends. Once you have done this hold on CTRL and then tap the D key, this will deselect the area. You should achieve a result looking like this:

Now I know that you’re thinking It looks ok, but it’s not as nice as it could be. Well prepare to use your new found selection skills a little more to enhance the look and feel of the current gloss overlay.

Step 6

Select the area of the whole shape again by using the CTRL and left click function on the layer of the actual shape. Once this is done go to the top menu and navigate your way to: Select > Modify > Contract.

In the input box enter 2 px and then hit enter.

Now for the fun part, inverting the selection. To invert the selection all you need to do is know how to use keyboard shortcuts. Luckily for us those kind programmers at Adobe built one in for this specific function. To invert a selection press and hold CTRL and SHIFT and then hit the I key on your keyboard.

Once you have done this tap delete and it will remove 2 pixels of the gloss effect layer, and you should have something that looks like this:

You can play around with other shapes using other colours and other selection areas to achieve different looks and feelings with your designs. The sky is the limit!

Realistic water ripple effect in photoshop

Now start by having your object loaded in the picture, for me it is an apple.
With the rectangular selection tool make a selection as in the image below and with the colors white and black set as for and background go to filters -> rendere -> clouds

while still having the new made clouds layers selected go to filters -> distort -> twirl and twirl it about 176, then go to filters -> distort -> zigzag and set it as in the image below.

Then go to edit -> transform -> perspective and drag the top part a bit in and the bottom part far out as in the image below.

Then go to image -> adjustments -> hue and saturation and check colorize and drag the handles to blue colors like below.

Zoom out so you get a bigger view and use your free transform tool to drag out the edges to the left and right as shown in the image below. While you’re at it, drag down to fill the bottom white part.

Grab the single row margin tool and click top most of the blue layer and right click inside the selection choose layer via copy to copy the selection to a new layer.

Choose edit -> transform -> scale and scale the selection to the top, covering the white part of the image. give it a gaussian blur with about 2, then go to filters -> distort -> wave and set the handles as in the image below, then go to filters -> filter gallery and give it a plastic wrap with not much detail (we do not want a lot of white spots here).

Now select the bottom water ripple layer and go to filters -> filter gallery -> plastic wrap and set its handles as in the image below.

Select the top water layer again and go to filters -> distort -> pinch and set it as below. (Remember to have the selection first as holding down ctrl and click the layer)

Make a copy of your object layer, (the apple) and place it under the original, go to filters -> blur -> motion blur and set it as the image below and make a copy of it, merge those to together, to give the object a falling motion look.

Now you can make a copy of the original apple again and go to edit -> free transform drag the upper middle handle down so it becomes a reflection as the image below.

Go to filters -> distort -> ripple and set it as the image below and then your finally done.

Connecting to MySQL with PHP Lesson

Before you can get content out of your MySQL database for inclusion in a Web
page, you must first know how to establish a connection to MySQL from inside
a PHP script. Back in Chapter 2, you used a program called mysql that allowed
you to make such a connection. PHP has no need of any special program, however;
support for connecting to MySQL is built right into the language. The following
PHP function call establishes the connection:
mysql_connect(address, username, password);
Here, address is the IP address or host name of the computer on which the
MySQL server software is running (”localhost” if it’s running on the same
computer as the Web server software), and username and password are the same
MySQL user name and password you used to connect to the MySQL server in
Chapter 2.
You may remember that functions in PHP usually return (output) a value when
they are called. Don’t worry if this doesn’t ring any bells for you—it’s a detail that
I glossed over when I first discussed functions. In addition to doing something
useful when they are called, most functions output a value, and that value may
be stored in a variable for later use. The mysql_connect function shown above,
for example, returns a number that identifies the connection that has been established.
Since we intend to make use of the connection, we should hold onto this
value. Here’s an example of how we might connect to our MySQL server.
$dbcnx = mysql_connect(’localhost’, ‘root’, ‘mypasswd’);
As described above, the values of the three function parameters may differ for
your MySQL server. What’s important to see here is that the value returned by
mysql_connect (which we’ll call a connection identifier) is stored in a variable
named $dbcnx.
As the MySQL server is a completely separate piece of software, we must consider
the possibility that the server is unavailable or inaccessible due to a network
outage, or because the username/password combination you provided is not ac-

cepted by the server. In such cases, the mysql_connect function doesn’t return
a connection identifier, as no connection is established. Instead, it returns false.
This allows us to react to such failures using an if statement:

There are three new tricks in the above code fragment. First, we have placed an
@ symbol in front of the mysql_connect function. Many functions, including
mysql_connect, automatically display ugly error messages when they fail. Placing
the @ symbol (also known as the error suppression operator) in front of the
function name tells the function to fail silently, allowing us to display our own,
friendlier error message.
Next, we put an exclamation point in front of the $dbcnx variable in the condition
of the if statement. The exclamation point is the PHP negation operator, which
basically flips a false value to true, or a true value to false. Thus, if the connection
fails and mysql_connect returns false, !$dbcnx will evaluate to true, and cause
the statements in the body of our if statement to be executed. Alternatively, if
a connection was made, the connection identifier stored in $dbcnx will evaluate
to true (any number other than zero is considered “true” in PHP), so !$dbcnx
will evaluate to false, and the statements in the if statement will not be executed.
The last new trick is the exit function, which is the first example that we’ve encountered
of a function that takes no parameters. All this function does is cause
PHP to stop reading the page at this point. This is a good response to a failed
database connection, because in most cases the page will be unable to display
any useful information without that connection.
As in Chapter 2, once a connection is established, the next step is to select the
database with which you want to work. Let’s say we want to work with the joke
database we created in Chapter 2. The database we created was called jokes. Selecting
that database in PHP is just a matter of another function call:
mysql_select_db(’jokes’, $dbcnx);
Notice we use the $dbcnx variable that contains the database connection identifier
to tell the function which database connection to use. This parameter is actually
optional. When it’s omitted, the function will automatically use the link
identifier for the last connection opened. This function returns true when it’s

successful and false if an error occurs. Once again, it’s prudent to use an if
statement to handle errors:

Notice that this time, instead of assigning the result of the function to a variable
and then checking if the variable is true or false, I have simply used the function
call itself as the condition. This may look a little strange, but it’s a very commonly
used short cut. To check if the condition is true or false, PHP executes the function
and then checks its return value—exactly what we need to happen.
Another short cut I’ve used here is the die function. die works just like echo,
except that the script exits after it. So calling die is equivalent to a call to echo
followed by a call to exit, which is what we used for mysql_connect above.
With a connection established and a database selected, we are now ready to begin
using the data stored in the database.
